This week at ELEVATE was a clear reminder of why we do what we do at ELEVATE – encouraging and equipping our young people to seek, surrender to, and serve Jesus with their whole heart.
Abby was a middle school student attending a conference with us when she sensed the LORD was calling her to a life of full-time mission work. And now, roughly 12 years later, she is preparing to move with her husband, Porter, and their two little ones to a part of the world where Bibles are scarce and followers of Jesus represent less than 10 percent of the population. As Holy Spirit prompts you…pray for Abby & Porter!
Not every ELEVATEr will become a full-time missionary to another part of the world, but praying that most will live ALL-IN for Him who went ALL-IN for them (that they will “shake-n-shine”) so others will be saved.
Questions to ask at the table or when you’re driving in the car:
- How did the LORD work through both joyful and difficult seasons in Porter and Abby’s story?
Where have you seen (or want to see) the LORD working in your own life, even when things don’t make sense? - What moments in their story required them to trust the LORD instead of their own plans?
What does trusting the LORD look like for you and your peers right now (school, friendships, family, future)? - How does Porter & Abby’s story point others to Jesus rather than to themselves?
What are some practical ways your life can reflect the light of Jesus to others this week?
ACTION STEPS:
- What is one area of your life where you’ve seen the LORD working already?
- What is one area of your life where you are hoping the LORD will work?
- What comfort does Philippians 1:6 give you as you consider these things?
